What Are The Common Causes of Motor Damage?

Date: 2021-12-23     From: Longding     Author: admin

The motor is a device that converts electrical energy into kinetic energy. There are many types of motors, and the phenomena and causes of damage to different types of motors will vary. But to sum up, there are actually two major categories of electrical and mechanical. Therefore, it will be damaged if it is used for a long time. The following lists the common causes of motor damage.

1. Bearing problem

A. The lubricating oil is insufficient, aging, or excessive. The lubricating oil should not exceed 70% of the bearing cap and bearing volume.

B. There are impurities such as iron powder in the lubricating oil, or the oil ring inside is stuck.

C. The installation is not in place. For example, the bearing, the stop of the bearing cap is not assembled, or the gap between the two is too tight or too loose. The concentricity is not right, and there is the eccentric force that causes damage.

D. The coupling level is not adjusted properly. The chain or belt between the transmissions is too tight, and the shaft is deformed due to the impact of the load.

E. The clearance of the bearing is inappropriate.

F. The start and stop frequency of the motor is too high, and the rigidity is too high. For some occasions, it is not advisable to start with full voltage, and the soft start will be better.

2. Selection, installation, and use problems

A. The motor and the load are not level, causing the load and the motor to be out of concentricity and there is a radial impact force.

B. The screws of the motor feet are not fixed properly.

C. The load condition was not taken into consideration when selecting the model.

D. Wrong wiring causes overheating inside the motor.

E. There is no protection device for the motor, such as overheating, overloading, overtemperature, lack of equalization. These may burn the motor.

F. The drive is broken, causing the motor to burn out with instantaneous high voltage or high current.

G. The voltage is inappropriate.

3. Environmental issue

A. Brushed DC motors are used on dusty occasions, and there is no device such as a fan to dredge the dust in time, which will cause the carbon brush and commutator to wear in a short time.

B. On high-temperature occasions, no high-temperature resistant motors such as F and H are used, and no separate air cooling system is designed, and the temperature of the motor is too high for long-term operation.

C. The environmental humidity is too high, and no detailed consideration is given to the use of electrical insulation, which may cause leakage on the circuit.

D. For loads with large vibrations, resonance must be considered. When fixing the motor, the direction of the screw should be considered whether it will loosen due to the difference in the direction of vibration.

4. Motor quality problem

A. The copper wire of the coil winding is unqualified, or the number of turns is not enough, or the resistance value of each phase is different.

B. The motor insulation is not good. Sometimes the grid voltage of the factory power supply is too high, and the voltage fluctuates slightly, causing insulation breakdown.

C. Some permanent magnet motors have magnetic materials that are not resistant to high temperatures and lose their magnetism after a period of use.
