How Does A Hydrocyclone Separator Work?

Date: 2021-05-07     From: Longding     Author: admin

A hydrocyclone uses strong centrifugal force and fluid pressure to accelerate the separation of mixtures under high-speed rotation. The working efficiency of the hydrocyclone is more than 90%. Hydrocyclones are easy maintenance and have no moving parts.

How Does A Hydrocyclone Separator Work?

The cyclone separates liquid-liquid, liquid-solid, liquid-gas and other two-phase or multi-phase mixtures with a certain density difference under the action of centrifugal force. The mixed liquid enters the cyclone tangentially at a certain pressure, and a high-speed rotating flow field is generated in the cylindrical cavity. The denser part moves downward in the axial direction and outward in the radial direction. After reaching the cone section, it moves down along the wall of the device and is discharged from the underflow port. The outer vortex flow field is formed. The low-density part moves toward the central axis, and forms an upward-moving inner vortex in the center of the axis, which is then discharged from the overflow port. In this way, the purpose of two-phase separation is achieved.

Hydrocyclone structure

The upper part of the hydrocyclone is a hollow cylinder, and the lower part is an inverted cone that communicates with the cylinder. The two form a hydrocyclone. The upper end of the cylindrical barrel is tangentially equipped with a feeding pipe, and the top is equipped with an overflow pipe and an overflow conduit. There is a grit chamber at the bottom of the conical cylinder. The parts are connected by flanges and screws. Feeding ports, barrels, and grit chambers are usually lined with rubber, polyurethane, silicon carbide to reduce wear and replace after wear.
