What Is The Difference Between A Slurry Pump And A Mud Pump?

Date: 2022-02-25     From: Longding     Author: admin

Slurry pumps and mud pumps are both types of impurity pumps. As a kind of centrifugal pump, an impurity pump is often used to transport slurry containing solid particles in industrial production. The impurity pump can also be divided into the sand pump, ash pump, and so on according to the different conveying mediums. Users are easily confused when choosing a slurry pump and a mud pump. So what is the difference between the slurry pump and mud pump?

Different conveying medium

Slurry pumps are mainly used in the mining industry to transport slag-containing slurries and mud. Since the slurry pump is easily affected by the impact, wear, and corrosion of the slurry during the working process, the slurry pump is usually lined with wear-resistant materials, such as high-chromium alloy, rubber, and other highly wear-resistant materials, thereby forming wear-resistant slurry Pump. This can effectively reduce the wear inside the slurry pump. Most of the slurry pumps currently on the market are wear-resistant slurry pumps.

Mud pumps are generally made of cast iron with low wear resistance. As an important part of drilling machinery, it can only be used to transport mud or slurry containing suspended particles.

Whether auxiliary equipment is required

Mud pumps require auxiliary equipment, while slurry pumps do not. When the mud pump is working, it often needs to be used in conjunction with the high-pressure clean water pump. The high-pressure pump transports the clean water higher than the pressure of the mud pump to the leak-proof packing to protect the packing, otherwise, the sealing part will be easily worn. The wear-resistant slurry pump can complete the conveying work alone without other auxiliary equipment.

Different working principle

The wear-resistant slurry pump is driven by the motor to rotate the impeller, and the slurry flows to the edge of the impeller due to inertia, and is discharged from the discharge pipe at a high speed.

In the mud pump, the motor drives the piston to move through the connecting rod mechanism, which causes the change of the volume of the closed chamber in the mud pump and the change of the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the pump, thus completing the process of water absorption and drainage.

Different application medium

Because the application medium of the two pumps is different, the fields of application will also be different. Slurry pumps are mainly used in metallurgy, electric power, mining, coal and other industrial sectors to convey the slurry of solid particles. The mud pump has always been mainly used to transport suspended slurry in drilling, pharmaceutical, brewing, papermaking and other industries.
